  • Intravenous ingredients:
Vitamin C, Vitamin B12, Vitamin B Co and Magnesium Sulphate

    The science of the benefits:
Intravenous fluids, 1 litre:  Maximum internal rehydration with a litre of intravenous fluid.

    Vitamin C / Ascorbic acid:
Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin with antioxidant capabilities to stabilize vitamin E and folic acid, it’s involved in collagen, noradrenalin and nitric oxide synthesis. It is also thought to help in the prevention of the common cold. Humans, unlike most animals, are unable to synthesize vitamin C endogenously, so it is an essential dietary component. We love it because it plays a role in immune function and is essential requirement in the biosynthesis of collagen. It is also an important physiological antioxidant that’s been shown to regenerate other antioxidants like vitamin E. Ongoing research is examining whether vitamin C, by limiting the damaging effects of free radicals through its antioxidant activity, might help prevent or delay the development of certain cancers, cardiovascular disease, and other diseases in which oxidative stress plays a causal role.

    Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 or cobalamin is essential for DNA synthesis and for cellular energy production. It’s deficiency is very common esp. in the elderly, vegans and vegetarians. The long-term consequences of sub-clinical deficiency are not fully known but may include adverse effects on pregnancy outcomes, vascular, cognitive, bone and eye health. There has been renewed interest in vitamin B12 since the reporting of associations between homocysteine and chronic disease, particularly vascular disease. Adequate vitamin B12 status over the whole of the lifecycle is needed for optimal health.

    Vitamin B Co
Vitamin B Co comprises a group of eight water soluble vitamins that perform essential, closely inter-related roles in cellular functioning, acting as co-enzymes in a vast array of catabolic and anabolic enzymatic reactions. Their collective effects are particularly prevalent to numerous aspects of brain function, including energy production, DNA/RNA synthesis/repair, genomic and non-genomic methylation, and the synthesis of numerous neurochemicals and signaling molecules

    Magnesium sulphate
Magnesium sulphate is a naturally occurring micromineral that serves as an important cofactor in hundreds of enzymatic reactions and is essential in the regulation of so many organ systems, esp. muscles and nerves. From a neurological standpoint, magnesium plays an essential role in nerve transmission and neuromuscular conduction. There is strong data to suggest a role for magnesium in migraine and depression, and emerging data to suggest a protective effect of magnesium for chronic pain, anxiety, and stroke. Magnesium is essential for regulation of muscle contraction (including that of the heart), blood pressure, insulin metabolism, and is required for the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and proteins. It has been estimated that approximately half of the US population is consuming inadequate amounts of magnesium. Due to the wide-ranging functions of magnesium, inadequate intake could predispose individuals to multiple health issues, including those related to neurological conditions.
